General Club Information

The Fremont County Radio Control Club (FCRCC) has been in existence for over 30 years. The Academy of Model Aeronautics (AMA), a national organization, charters the club.

Membership in the FCRCC costs $40.00 per year (which covers both the individual and family members). There is no initiation fee. Membership runs from January 1st to December 31st. New members joining after the July 1st will receive a discounted membership rate for that calendar year. In addition to a club membership, an AMA membership is required and mandatory to fly at our field. AMA adult membership (19 and over) currently costs $58.00 per year, which includes a monthly magazine subscription. Those over 65 have a $10.00 senior discount. Youth AMA membership is free. AMA membership includes $2.5 million of liability insurance coverage.

New members with R/C model flying experience are required to demonstrate their flying competence to any of the club instructors. Once certified by an instructor the member has full access to the flying site. All flyers are required to comply with the AMA Safety Code as well as the club's additional safety rules and procedures. New members without R/C model flying experience have access to training assistance through the club’s training program.

The FCRCC airfield is located approximately one mile south of the Fremont County/Cañon City, Colorado Airport. It has a 700' long unpaved runway and it is located on Fremont County Airport property. The club leases the site from the Fremont County Commissioners. Flying is restricted to radio controlled powered model airplanes and helicopters. Because of the proximity to the airport, flying altitude is restricted to approximately 400' and below while yielding the right of way to full size aircraft operations. Our runway is at 5,429’ above MSL.

During the winter season through the end of May the club has access to a local gymnasium for indoor flying. Aircraft are limited to small electric powered airplanes and helicopters.

The club meets monthly on the first Friday at the Fremont County Airport Annex Building #2 at 7:00 PM. The business meeting consists of reviewing safety issues, planning future flying events and reviewing pilot training status. The club also raises money for community charities. Other events such as airfield maintenance, a yearly club auction, Christmas party and attending external events are also held.
