Pit Shade Canopy materials being gathered up...

So far we now have some of the necessary materials on hand at the field for the upcoming Pit Shade Canopy project the club has been working towards installing at the flight line.
We now have some donated lumber on hand stored at the field to start the project, generously donated from Ed Vincent, but more is certainly needed to complete all the canopies across the flight line.
The pipe for the vertical legs that will support the Pit Shade Canopy structures is now in storage at the field and ready to be installed also.
I have personally pledged tools, hardware, materials, money and my vehicle, fuel, trailers and time in getting this project completed, hopefully in the near future, for the benefit of everyone at the field.
There are others in the club that have also personally pledged materials, money, tools, hardware and their manpower, vehicles, fuel and expertise in seeing this project to completion.
We all still need more materials, manpower, hardware, money and expertise from anyone interested in assisting the club in assembling and completing this project, and you can contact me day or night to let me know what and when you can contribute to completing this Pit Shade Canopy project.
A very big Thank You goes out to Mr. Jim Javernick of Florence, CO. for his very generous and kind donation of the needed pipe to be installed in the ground that will eventually support the structure on the flight line at the field. Without his kind and free donation we certainly would not be able to complete this project without a very major expense involved.
I also want to personally thank Terry Davis for his hard work in securing this donation from Mr. Javernick, and also to Ed Vincent in securing the use and free donation of the Oxygen-Acetylene torch setup that his brother-in-law owns. Our immense debt of gratitude goes out to all of those community members that have assisted this club, both now and the past, as well as in the future for all of the projects and needs of this club.
Ed Vincent, Terry Davis and myself, Mark Sullivan, met in Florence, CO. at Mr, Javernick's storage yard on Friday Dec 7th, 2012 at 10:00 AM to cut the generously donated pipe, and to haul the cut lengths to the field and store it for later use.
We are still in need of approximately 20 bags of cement that we will then mix and put down in the post holes to secure the vertical pipes that will support the structure itself. Also if anyone has access to a post hole auger machine rather than just using my hand and manually operated post hole digger tool, that would be a great benefit in digging the post holes, not to mention saving some very tedious and back breaking labor. Another need still not yet fulfilled is the necessary sheeting for the roof covering material to use for the roof. I have secured a donation of a small amount of steel sheet roofing material similar to a Pro-Panel type of sheeting we have been given by the Fremont County Airport manager Dick Baker, and I also want to personally Thank him for that generous donation of materials also, on behalf of the club members.

Here is a picture of the donated pipe now being stored at the field awaiting erecting the Pit Shade Canopies.

Buzz Havilands long awaited reward.....

At the December 7th 2012 monthly FCRCC club meeting, Buzz Haviland was presented with his Pilots Wings for solo flying, after a long period of instruction and self-taught work to achieve this very important milestone in his RC flying. He has shown a tenacious ability to persevere through a lot of adversity during the learning curve, and has kept his head up and worked towards his goal of earning this set of wings.

Congratulations go out to him from everyone in the club.

Saturday Flying

For Saturday, Dec 1st

The winds were blustery but not bad enough to ground Mark Sullivan, Dennis and myself. Mark achieved a "personal best" by flying every month within 2012. Way to go Mark!

Mark ended up flying his Uproar and he demonstrated flying his Escapade 40 for me. I ended up buying it from him. He also got out his P-51 but he was plagued by fuel leaks.

Anyway, the Uproar flew fine and Mark really pulled it through its paces.

Here the photos record him bringing in the Uproar for a landing.

This is the view looking into Mark's trailer.

Dennis doing a low, slow flyby

Dennis has flew the heck out of his Telemaster. Listen to this ... Dennis has run eight gallons of fuel this plane THIS YEAR!! I thought I flew a lot, but only a gallon and 1/2 this year.
FYI - Both Dennis and Mark paid their 2013 dues. I'll be collecting dues this coming Friday at the meeting. So remember, bring your checks and cash to the meeting.

Weekend Flying Report

Yes, I know the weekend is long past, but here it is anyway.

Indoor flying on Friday the 23rd. We had a good turnout, not huge but there were lots of helicopters and airplanes in the air, but not all at once. The Croffords were there plus Cloyce, Buzz, Dennis, Mark S. and myself. Here are some of the pictures I took.

My Champ flew into the suspending gymnasium mats. Cloyce had to lower it for me to retrieve the little guy. My Champ is getting long in the tooth and I may replace it with something newer for indoor flying.
Our next indoor flying session is on December 14th. Hope to see you there.

Sunday Flying

(I didn't go out Saturday, but I heard it was very windy most of Sat.)

We had a good turnout, but I didn't take any pictures. There were Ed, Terry, Mark S., Buzz, Dennis and myself (sorry if I missed anyone). The wind was a bit strong at times and sometimes gusty. When I arrived the wind had shifted from the west to the east and I got my LT-40 into the air with little difficulty. After one flight the wind picked up and I packed up. Of course, the wind calmed down after all my stuff was in the car. I guess this will be the usual routine as we transition from late Fall into Winter. This coming weekend may be a better opportunity for flying.

Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!

I may run out to the field for some flying this morning before all the family festivities begin later today....I want to wish everyone a very healthy and joyous holiday today.....I know I have sooooo much to be extremely thankful for here on my end, and I will be enjoying some good times with family and friends later on today too. May your favorite team win in football today.....as long as it begins with the initials D B.....hahaha.....if only they played today....siiighhh.

I am still trying to locate a portable cutting torch setup to go get the donated pipe for the pit shade canopy project coming up. If anyone can think of a source for a set please let us know ASAP.

Reminder: The Friday evening flying will again be this Friday, November 23rd 2012, at the Harrison School gymnasium beginning at 8 PM and going through 9:30 PM.

Another reminder: Coming up soon is that the gate combination to the field and to the buildings will be changed on New Years Day again the same as this past year was done. Those with their club dues paid up before January 1st 2013 will recieve the new combination from the club Secretary/Treasurer according to the club's bylaws.

Is anyone up for and interested in another New Year's Day Fun-Fly....or is it a Fly-In....???.  I can not keep the two seperate in my head which is what....Come on out to the field and put something to fly up in the air no matter what the weather is....even an electric!!! The FCRCC club's second annual  New Years Chilly Day Burn perhaps???.....suggestions and ideas welcomed. Perhaps some folks would like to bring something to share with everyone such as beverages and whatever else comes to mind, and I'll gladly supply a big pot of award winning pork chili to warm the insides, along with supplying a large propane bottle and heaters to warm the outsides too, if the heaters are needed that day. I was thinking of the idea of putting up a small tarp or windbreak between the buildings temporarily if that is needed also. Please attend and bring in the New Year in a fun way.

Have a safe and happy holiday today, and I hope to see everyone flying and visiting at the field or the gymnasium soon.
